Registered Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft-tissues of the body including muscle, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy is an evidenced-based healthcare option that helps alleviate the discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use, injury, and many acute and chronic pain conditions.

Massage therapy works through multiple factors that are both physiological and psychological. There is a direct effect from the manipulation of the affected soft-tissues by inducing a body response which will tissue to relax, improve blood flow and improve the healing of damaged tissue. As well, there is an indirect effect from therapeutic touch which will stimulate the sympathetic nervous system to reduce harmful biochemicals related to stress, pain, and mood.

At Uptown Waterloo Therapy, our Registered Massage Therapists work to provide evidence-based treatment. This means we are continuously educating ourselves on the growing body of research that supports how massage therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions.

Perinatal Massage Therapy

During pregnancy and postpartum, your body goes through incredible changes as you grow and birth your little one. Taking care of your body during this time in your life is so important! Ongoing massage therapy during pregnancy can help relieve some of the less welcomed changes that come with pregnancy (back pain, joint pain, pubic/ abdominal pain, edema (swelling), calf cramping, headaches). Let us take care of you so you can take care of your new little one and preparing for their arrival! Postpartum massage therapy will help the body find its new normal, help regulate hormones, breakdown scar tissue, mobilize cesarean scars and relieve tensions developed during nursing.
